Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga has announced retirement from Test cricket because of “degenerative knee condition”. He said, he feels himself fit for playing ODIs and T20s but not for Test cricket. Before his announcement of retirement, on one hand he declared himself unfit for the tour of England and on the other hand he was playing IPL matches with full fitness. Therefore, he was strictly directed by Sri Lankan board to leave IPL matches for restoration of fitness as he had already declared himself unfit.
A controversy between Sri Lankan IPL players and Sri Lankan board is there. While making plan for England tour Sri Lankan board directed Sri Lankan players to leave IPL and attend this plan, but Sri Lankan players looks like unhappy on leaving IPL. In result of interference from BCCI Sri Lankan board allowed these players to stay in India for few more days.
One can observe that IPL is not going in favour of Sri Lanka cricket, because after instruction from board to Lasith Malang to leave IPL for restoration of fitness, he announced even retirement from Test cricket. By retiring after development of a controversy will leave questions on Malinga’s decision. On the other hand relationship between Sri Lankan IPL players and Sri Lankan board is also not exemplary now.
West Indies player Chris Gayle has also announced himself not available for the rest of the matches against Pakistan after being dropped from first 2 ODIs according to a plan by West Indian board and has joined IPL. This is the charming offer from IPL who encourage Gayle to withdraw himself from an ongoing series. Looking at these controversies, more players can take steps against the decision of their concern boards by joining IPL. But, the first victim of IPL is “LASITH MALINGA”

ReplyDeleteSL Board had given no objection certificates to their players for playing the full course of IPL. Then all of a sudden, after their president's delegation failed to obtain the number of passes they had asked for the World Cup final, they start asking their players to come back home.
ReplyDeleteSimilarly West Indian board drops Gayle along with Sarwan and Chanderpaul from their One day and T20 squad. Later on they ask him why he chose IPL over country.
It's time these boards start respecting their players. Most of the boards, including BCCI, are run by real incompetent people who forget that they are what they are because of their players.
